Cicero Police Participate in Annual ‘Cop on a Rooftop’ for Special Olympics Illinois

May 17, 2025

The Cicero Police Department joined police departments across the state for the annual “Cop on a Rooftop” fundraiser in support of Special Olympics Illinois on Friday, May 16. Officers took to the rooftop of the Dunkin’ Donuts located at Cermak Road and Cicero Avenue from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m., greeting customers and collecting donations for the cause.

Now in its 22nd year, the event brings together law enforcement and local communities to raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics athletes. Officers waved signs, handed out thank-you stickers and encouraged donations—all while perched on the roof or mingling with supporters below.

Superintendent of Police Tom Boyle emphasized the importance of the department’s participation.
“The Cicero Police Department is honored to take part in ‘Cop on a Rooftop’ each year. It’s a fun and visible way to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to inclusion, support, and community partnership with Special Olympics Illinois,” he said.

Boyle also expressed appreciation for the strong community turnout and support.
“We’re extremely grateful to Dunkin’ at Cermak and Cicero, our Cicero community, and all the motorists that made donations during our ‘Cop on a Rooftop’ event yesterday. That support empowers Special Olympics athletes to compete, grow, and inspire,” he added.

Funds raised from the event help provide year-round training and competitions for thousands of Special Olympics athletes across Illinois. Community members who missed the event can still donate online at specialolympics.org/illinois.
